Possible Leave Break, Myakka Valley Could See 15 Feet Of Rising Water; Inhabitants Encouraged To Shield

The automated alert system in Sarasota County warned residents about a possible leakage of the Hidden River/Myakka Valley levee Saturday morning.

The alert text reads: “Possible Levee Break in the Area of Hidden River/Myakka Valley With Potential of 15 Feet of Flood Water.” Residents are advised to stay put if safe as possible, as there may be no exit routes or roads.

Myakka Valley is located in eastern Sarasota County. However, it is not clear from the automated phone call and text message where the levee may have broken or what areas are at risk of flooding.

Additional information was not available immediately, but the Herald-Tribune would update this story as soon as it becomes available.
