Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense reported the intrusion into the airspace of 19 planes of the Chinese Air Force. This is the most significant such incident since July 15, when 28 aircraft violated the border.
The group of intruders included four H-6 bombers. This is an analogue of the Tu-16, capable of carrying nuclear weapons. Also, 10 J-16 fighters, four Su-30s, a Y-8 transport plane and an electronic reconnaissance and warning aircraft invaded the airspace.
The PRC authorities consider Taiwan to be part of Chinese territory, periodically declaring the need for its “reunification” with mainland China. Taiwan does not declare itself an independent state, but is ready to defend its actual sovereignty.
