Rebel in horned helmet refuses to eat inorganic food in prison

A half-naked man with a painted face who stormed the U.S. Capitol wearing a furry horned hat and armed with a six-foot spear is refusing to eat in federal custody unless he is provided with organic food.

Jake Angeli, 33, whose real name is Jacob Anthony Chanceley, was arrested in Arizona on Saturday in connection with his viral role in Wednesday’s Capitol Hill uprising. Angeli, who faces charges of disorderly conduct, forcible entry and unlawful presence in closed Capitol grounds, is not eating in jail, his attorney said at a virtual hearing in federal court Monday, The Arizona Republic reported.

The arrested QAnon supporter’s mother, Martha Chansley, later explained that her son only consumes organic foods. “He gets very sick if he doesn’t eat organic foods,” she said.

During a virtual court appearance, Magistrate Judge Deborah Fine advised the picky eater’s public defender to resolve the issue with the U.S. Marshals. The judge ordered that he be held in Phoenix pending arraignment in Washington, D.C., until at least Jan. 15, the newspaper reported. If convicted, he could be imprisoned for several years.

As the deadly violence unfolded around him during the riots, Angeli, wearing a horned helmet, was photographed on a dais in the U.S. Senate chamber – flexing his biceps in one hand while waving a spear emblazoned with an American flag in the other.
