Rene Magritte’s “Arc de Triomphe” sold for $ 22.5 million

At the London online auction of the Christie’s auction house for more than £ 17 million (more than $ 22 million), the painting “Arc de Triomphe” by Belgian surrealist artist Rene Magritte was sold.

About this in his Twitter reports auction house Christie’s.

The picture became the top lot of online auction auction Christie’s in London. It is noted that the estimated cost of the canvas did not exceed £ 9.5 million ($ 12 million).

The canvas depicts a tree on a background of blue-green leaves of a chestnut. So the artist conveyed a sense of harmony, unity and integrity. On the website of the auction house it is indicated that the artist depicted a chestnut and managed to “capture its essence”.

Experts believe that Magritte was able to convey a special visual resemblance to the world-famous Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

Magritte painted this picture in 1962. Since then, she has already changed three owners.
