Republican leader calls impeachment a mistake

Kevin McCarthy, the Republican minority leader from the state of California in the House of Representatives, called the impeachment of the U.S. president a mistake because there was no investigation of what happened or congressional hearings.

“I believe that impeaching the president on such short notice would be a mistake. There was no investigation. There were no hearings. Moreover, the Senate has confirmed that the process can only begin after President-elect Biden is sworn in,” TASS quoted McCarthy as saying at the House impeachment hearing.

McCarthy added that he recognizes the responsibility of the current U.S. president for the actions of his supporters who stormed the Capitol.

“That doesn’t mean the president is not responsible for anything. The president is responsible for the mob attack on Congress on Wednesday,” the Republican added.
