Ronnie Oneal III has been found guilty of the murder of a Riverview family. That was the verdict reached by a jury.
After a week of testimony, it took a panel of nine men and three women four and a half hours to find Oneal guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in the 2018 murders of his common-law wife and their 9-year-old daughter, as well as the attempted murder of their 8-year-old son.
A jury also found O’Neill guilty of setting fire to the family home in Riverview and two counts of aggravated child abuse. The case will now enter the sentencing phase, which could last until the end of the week. The prosecutor’s office wants a jury to sentence O’Neill to execution.
On March 18, 2018, that O’Neill attacked his girlfriend Kenyatta Barron at their home, wounding her with a shotgun blast to the shoulder. Barron, 33, dialed emergency services from her cell phone. The call was recorded and listened to during the trial, O’Neill yelling at the woman, the child, threatening to kill her and making the boy say “Allahu Akbar.”
The wounded Barron ran out into a neighbor’s yard. O’Neill chased after her. The neighbor opened the front door and saw O’Neill beating Barron with a broken shotgun. He then fled to his house. There he dragged his 9-year-old daughter, Ron`Nivea O’Neill, out of her bedroom. The girl was autistic, had cerebral palsy and could not speak. He struck her repeatedly in the head and neck with an axe. He then attacked his 8-year-old son, wounding him with a knife. In the midst of the mayhem, Onil spilled gasoline all over the house and set it on fire. After that, only the boy survived.
