Russia and the US continue to exchange data on impending terrorist attacks

Moscow and Washington at the level of law enforcement agencies and special services continue to exchange data on upcoming terrorist attacks, Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

When asked whether the coronavirus pandemic paused the consultations between Russia and the United States in the field of anti-terror, he replied: “We continue to exchange data on upcoming terrorist attacks by law enforcement agencies and special services.”

“In this matter, as you know, we have examples of constructive and, most importantly, effective interaction,” he added.

“It’s enough to mention the partnership between Moscow and Washington in the preparation and conduct of the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, or, for example, the timely transmission by the US intelligence of information about the upcoming terrorist attacks in St. Petersburg in 2017 and in December last year, which helped us prevent terrible tragedies,” – said the deputy foreign minister of Russia.

According to him, “our partnership in counter-terrorism is a two-way road.”

“I can give you an example that has been widely publicized. We, in turn, warned our American colleagues in advance about the danger posed by the Tsarnaev brothers who committed the attack at the Boston marathon in April 2013,” Syromolotov said.

He drew attention to the fact that “the UN Security Council subsidiary bodies – the Counter-Terrorism Committee, as well as the committees 1267/1989/2253 on sanctions against ISIS * and al-Qaeda * and 1988 on sanctions against Taliban Movement. “
