Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on the changes in the U.S. foreign policy, which may occur if the Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden wins, and hoped for respectful relations between the countries.
The head of the agency said it was premature to discuss the consequences of the U.S. elections. He stressed that Moscow is closely watching what is happening in the United States and is ready for any developments, but does not consider forecasts a “fertile idea.
“Judging by Biden’s statements and statements, we can assume that the U.S. foreign policy, if it wins, will be more in line with the canons promoted by [former President Barack] Obama,” the diplomat suggested.
Lavrov also recalled the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin that Moscow would make any decision of the American people, but would work with Washington only on the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in domestic affairs. In this regard, the minister hoped that the new administration “will finally begin to reckon with the legitimate interests of other international players.
On November 3, regular presidential elections were held in the USA. At present, the counting of votes and the proceedings on this issue are still ongoing. According to the media assessment, Biden won the necessary number of votes to win, thus bypassing the incumbent U.S. leader Donald Trump. The Democrat has already proclaimed himself elected president of the United States. Trump, in turn, said that Biden has hurried to call himself the new leader of the country.
