The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the proposal of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to hold a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council. The Foreign Ministry notes that Moscow, contrary to the statements of the Alliance, does not withdraw from the dialogue. NATO does not accept Russia’s proposal for de-escalation of the conflict.
The council has not been held for 19 months and was not held for about a year. Among the topics proposed for discussion by the parties are the exchange of views on military maneuvers and “transparency” of military activities to avoid accidents in the air and sea.
At this point, relations with Russia have reached a low point, and dialogue would be the best way to reduce tensions.
