Russia will retaliate against British sanctions

Alexei Kondratyev, a member of the Federation Council international committee, said that Russia would retaliate against the British Magnitsky list, RIA Novosti reports.

The specific parameters will be determined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and law enforcement agencies of Russia, Kondratyev said.

He recalled that the principle of a mirror response is laid down in Russian legislation.

The compilation of such a list is a manifestation of hostility towards Russia and will negatively affect bilateral relations between Moscow and London, Kondratyev concluded.

Earlier, the British Foreign Ministry published a list of Russian citizens in respect of which sanctions are imposed for violating human rights. In total, 25 Russians were on this list, who, according to the British authorities, were involved in the death of lawyer Sergei Magnitsky in 2009. The persons on the list are prohibited from entering the UK, and all assets in the territory, if any, are frozen.
