Russian Su-27 intercepts US reconnaissance aircraft over the Black Sea again

The American reconnaissance aircraft EP-3E of the US Navy was again spotted over the Black Sea – it was approaching the Russian borders.

As told in the National Center for Defense Control of Russia, the EP-3E was intercepted by the Russian Su-27 from the air defense forces on duty in the Southern Military District.

“After the American reconnaissance aircraft turned away from the state border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter returned safely to the home airfield,” the message says. The flight of the Russian aircraft took place in accordance with international rules. The American reconnaissance aircraft did not violate the state borders of Russia.

The last time over the Black Sea, two American reconnaissance aircraft intercepted the day before, July 30. The Russian authorities note the increased activity of American aircraft near the Russian borders. “Often these are reconnaissance, often provocative flights,” said Andrei Krasov, First Deputy Head of the State Duma Defense Committee, in a conversation with Interfax. He pointed out that these actions will not remain without a reaction from the Russian side.
