A heavy fire destroys a quarter of pier 45 at San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf.
A firefighter’s warehouse broke out at the pier, it was localized and one significant part of the pier burned out, according to the city’s fire department.
More than 150 firefighters fought the fire, said Lt. Jonathan Baxter of the San Francisco Fire Department. The warehouse where the fire started was completely destroyed and two other buildings partially collapsed. Extinguishing lasted from late at night until mid-day. One firefighter was seriously injured.
The pier is close to a popular tourist area.
