After analyzing over 10 thousand samples of the new coronavirus infection from various regions of the world, scientists discovered several of its varieties. Relevant material is published in the bioRxiv electronic scientific library.

Thanks to the new algorithm, specialists studied 10.4 thousand strains of SARS-CoV-2 and found six clonal groups of this virus that are spreading around the world.

It is known that the causative agent of COVID-19 is this strain. Scientists have found that it mutates at about the same rate as the causative agent of influenza.

However, experts do not yet know how these changes affect the infectivity and other properties of the virus.

As of June 9, in Russia, 485,253 cases of coronavirus were detected in 85 regions. Over the entire period, 6,142 deaths were recorded, 242,397 people recovered.

On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities announced an outbreak of pneumonia in Wuhan. The causative agent of the disease is a new type of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19.
