Seattle protesters seize City Hall and demand autonomy

Protesters seized Seattle City Hall with a call to disperse the police department. A group of activists also calls on the mayor to resign and recognize the autonomous zone in the city.

Hundreds of protesters, backed by a sympathetic city councilor, broke into Seattle City Hall, demanding the mayor’s resignation, only a few days after capturing six blocks in the center, including a closed police station. After the police left the area, they announced the appearance of an “autonomous zone” and demand recognition at the state level.

The demonstrators remained peaceful, there were no reports of violence or injuries, but protesters want Mayor Jenny Durkan to resign. Activists camped in the self-proclaimed “Autonomous Region of the Capitol.”
