Senate approves Buttigic as Secretary of Transportation

Former opponent of President Biden in the primaries, Buttigic has become the first openly gay man to win a ministerial post

The U.S. Senate confirmed Pete Buttigic as Transportation Secretary in President Joe Biden’s administration.

A former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Buttigic tweeted that he was “flattered” by the Senate vote (86 in favor with 13 against) and “ready to get to work.”

Buttigic, who was Biden’s opponent in the presidential primary, is the first openly gay man to receive a position in a U.S. cabinet.
