That’s history. Shangela has made her public debut on the show last on the night, becoming the first drag queen perform on Dancing With the Stars, an American show Dancing With the Stars, dancing the salsa with her partner Gleb Savenchko. The song was “When I Grow Up” by the Pussycat Dolls. It was a fitting song choiceconsidering the fact that Shangela is a well-known, popular celebrity, and has appeared in films (with Lady Gaga, no less).
The leopard print was a striking color that was the inspiration for the costumes of the duo and stage for their debut performance. “I hope that we show people that it’s all about the heart and soul of who you are as a person,” Shangela declared in the month prior to being announced as a part of the cast of this season, as reported by People. “It isn’t a matter of two people dancing together, or if it’s a male or drag performer like myself , dancing together. It’s all about the spirit of dancing and having fun and ability to be connected and to know more about the worlds of others.”
After her energetic performance, the judge Derek Hough praised Shangela for being a model of “so much energy, so much power, so much charisma.” Does this mean that the outcome was 10s, 10, all over the board? Not necessarily. The last time around, Team Sheb scored 28 out of 40 points with the four judges choosing to award seven out of 10 points. There’s still plenty of work to do before it’s time for the Mirrorball trophy is presented. Based on previous season’s schedules the final episode is likely to air in November.
As the Pussycat Dolls suggest, anyone looking forward to a win may get it. Well, not (spoiler!) Sex and the City actor Jason Lewis, who got exiled after the debut show … but everyone else. Dancing with the Stars, which is currently exclusively airing through Disney+, returns next on the 26th of September.
