Information about the accident with the Onega (home port Murmansk), which was fishing in the Barents Sea, was received Monday morning. According to preliminary reports, the vessel sank due to icing.

The Voykovo vessel is taking part in the search and rescue operation. In addition, three more vessels have been sent to the wreck site.

A storm is raging at the site of the wreck, waves reach 4 metres and the air temperature in the open sea is -20 degrees Celsius.
Helicopters are unable to approach the wreck site due to the weather conditions.

It is known that the sinking was caused by the vessel capsizing as a result of a fishing trawl being pulled out.
