Until recently, Spielberg tried to exclude Netflix movies from the Academy Awards and generally opposed the recognition of the streaming service product as a full-fledged movie. Now the production company Amblin Partners, founded and headed by director and producer Steven Spielberg, has signed a multi-year contract with the Netflix platform.
The two companies announced in a press release that the partnership will produce several new feature films per year. “For Amblin, storytelling will always be at the center of everything we do. We have an amazing opportunity to tell new stories together and reach out to audiences in a new way. This is a new way for our films,” Spielberg said in a statement.
The amount of the deal was not disclosed.
