The rise in US stock indexes on the back of positive news about the development of a vaccine against the new coronavirus and the growth of activity on mergers and acquisitions of companies by the end of trading occurred on Monday, September 14.

Investors reacted positively to the news on the resumption of clinical trials of a vaccine against COVID-19 by the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford. Earlier, on September 6, research was stopped due to deteriorating health in one of the volunteers. The decision to continue trials was made after receiving confirmation from the UK Medicines and Health Products Administration (MHRA) about the safety of the drug.

Pfizer rose 2.6% on the back of a statement from the CEO of Pfizer Inc. Albert Burla. The manager said the vaccine, which is being developed by Pfizer in conjunction with BioNTech, will be known by the end of October and, if approved by the US authorities, can be used by the end of the year.

Experts point out that the finished vaccine is still a big question, but investors are positive about the news about developments in the pharmaceutical sector.

Shares of the American Gilead Sciences Inc. grew by 2.2%. The biopharmaceutical company announced the acquisition of breast cancer drug developer Immunomedics Inc. The amount of the deal is determined at $ 21 billion. The shares of Immunomedics itself have practically doubled in price – an increase of 98%.

The growth of quotations in the field of high-tech companies was also noted. Oracle shares rose 4.3%, with reports that ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, had selected Oracle as a potential buyer. Microsoft shares gained 0.7%, despite the decision of the owners of TikTok.

Nvidia Corp. soared 5.8 amid news of the sale of Japanese SoftBank Group Corp. its British processor developer Arm Holdings. The deals are planned for $ 40 billion. Nvidia Corp. could become the world’s largest manufacturer of semiconductor components.

The capitalization of Verizon Communications Inc. has grown. by 0.9% against the background of the statement of the American telephone operator about agreements to buy TracFone company for up to $ 7 billion
