In Southern California and San Joaquin Valley by order of the governor, quarantine is introduced from Sunday evening.
According to him, about 27 million people will be in the zone of new restrictions. The quarantine will last at least three weeks, so it will cover the Christmas period.
In particular, bars, museums, beauty salons, playgrounds, amusement parks will be closed. Restaurants will be able to work only skillfully and for delivery, stores will continue to work in a limited mode. The schools will remain open.
The authorities have introduced stricter measures due to the fact that the share of available hospital beds against the background of coronavirus proliferation has dropped below 15%: in Southern California the figure is at 12.5%, in San Joaquin Valley – 8.6%.
According to the agency Associated Press, on Saturday, many hurried to stores and hairdressers to have time to stock up and make a haircut before the lockdown.
Meanwhile, earlier Friday, local authorities in the San Francisco Bay Area had already introduced quarantine without waiting for decisions at the state level. Restrictions will remain in effect until January 4 and will cover about 5.8 million people.
