Tens of thousands of Americans have left the ranks of the U.S. Republican Party after supporters of former Republican President Donald Trump went to storm the Capitol in Washington on January 6.
It is reported that only in those states whose authorities report voter refusal to register – Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, Florida and several others – there were 30 thousand fewer registered Republican supporters.
It is noted that this may be the tip of the iceberg – data for other states is simply not available – and indicates a disappointing prognosis for the Republican Party. The current situation is bad enough as it is: they lost the presidential race and did not hold on to their majority in the Senate, the upper house of the American Parliament.
On January 6, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building and surrounded the Senate chamber protesting the election results. The Senate and House of Representatives adjourned a session scheduled to approve the results of the past election. Dozens of people were detained and five people were killed.
