The American lost his taste because of COVID-19 and started shooting TikTok video about it. He has already collected 12 million views

Although thinking about coronavirus, we first of all think about respiratory symptoms, we should not lose sight of another unpleasant side effect: loss of taste and smell.

Russell Donnelly, a 30-year-old bartender and aspiring actor from New Jersey, was diagnosed with COVID-19 a few days ago.

“My only symptom is that I don’t feel any tastes or smells. – said the man to BuzzFeed News – Otherwise, I feel great.

Disease and self-isolation pushed Russell into a new hobby that has already helped him collect 12 million views on TikTok. It all started when Donnelly’s friend didn’t believe that he really couldn’t feel his tastes anymore.

“He said, ‘Eat something nasty,’ and I thought, ‘Well, okay,'” Russell recalls. Since then, the man has published half a dozen videos on the social network. He eats raw onions, garlic paste, drinks vinegar and lemon juice – and in one particularly spectacular video, he even ate Oreo cookies with wasabi instead of chocolate paste in the middle.

Despite his joking posts at TikTok, Russell takes the coronavirus seriously and never tires of reminding others how important security measures are.

“To everyone who thinks that COVID-19 doesn’t exist or that it’s not so dangerous, I want to say: I’m lucky to have only such symptoms. – stresses Donnelly – the virus should never be treated lightly. It may cost you your life”.
