Russian Consul General in Sapporo Sergey Marin said that the assistant captain of the Russian trawler Amur, Pavel Dobryanskiy, was given a lawyer.

The Russian seafarer was detained on suspicion of violations in the course of official duties that resulted in the death of a person, as well as violations in the process of maneuvering the vehicle. The arrest occurred as part of an investigation into a collision between the Japanese fishing schooner Dai-hachi Hokko-maru and the Russian ship Amur, which caused the Japanese ship to capsize and three crew members to die.

The punishment for Pavel Dobryansky, the third assistant captain of the Russian trawler Amur, is up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 1 million yen.
