French epidemiologist Arnaud Fontanet, who is a member of a group advising the French government on how best to deal with coronavirus, said he would be “surprised” if scientists created an “effective” coronavirus vaccine by 2021.
He believes that at least one vaccine option may be partially effective, but in such a short time it is impossible to create a fully working and safe drug.
“The vaccine has been in development for several months. Of course, there is an unprecedented effort, but I would be very surprised if we got a working version by 2021, ”said Fontanet.
He also suggested that the world would have to “live long with this virus” and adopt more serious habits to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in public places.
