Council of the European Union approved the space program for 2021-2027 with a budget of 14.8 billion euros.
The agency’s press office released a statement to this effect.
“The EU Council adopted regulatory rules for the introduction of the EU space program for 2021-2027. The agreement paved the way for an early adoption of the draft in the second reading,” the statement said.
The new rules will simplify the application of EU space legislation. They are also recognized to improve existing space programs, as well as to identify possible sources of danger through a space-based situational awareness (SSA) component and provide secure satellite communication channels.
“The European Parliament is expected to approve the EU Council position on first reading in April 2021. After that, the regulation will be considered officially adopted. It will be approved retroactively from January 1, 2021,” the agency summarized.
