The EU will consider the recognition of Guaido President of Venezuela

EU foreign ministers will consider recognizing Juan Guaido as interim president of Venezuela at the first meeting after quarantine. This was stated by Slovak Foreign Minister Igor Korczok, reports TASS.

“On behalf of the Slovak government, I will inform the EU Council that we have decided to recognize Juan Guaido as interim president of Venezuela. We want to contribute to the movement towards EU unity (in this issue – the comment. “Tapes. Ru”), ”the agency quoted the diplomat as saying.

Slovakia, together with Italy, blocked this decision when it was proposed in February 2019. In the spring of 2020, the government changed in the country, and the Slovak Foreign Ministry was headed by a former ambassador in Washington. Soon after, Slovakia decided to change the position of Venezuela.

On July 2, it became known that the Supreme Court of Great Britain considers Guaido the legitimate head of Venezuela. Based on this, the court refused to transfer to the regime of the incumbent head of the country Nicolas Maduro more than $ 930 million in gold bars lying in the Bank of England.

At the end of April 2019, Guaido called on the military and the people of the country to overthrow Maduro. He stated that the army sided with him, and called what was happening “the final phase of Operation Freedom.” The next day, Maduro declared his victory over the opposition forces. Russia supported the incumbent president, the United States recognized the legitimacy of Guaido.
