The owners and insurers of the huge container ship Ever Given have reached an “agreement in principle” with the authorities of the Suez Canal, as stated by representatives of both parties.
A spokesman for the Suez Canal Authority and lawyers for the owners of the ship confirmed this information.
However, neither side has disclosed the essence of the agreements.
It is known that the main dispute concerns the financial side, namely the amount of compensation, demanded by the Suez Canal authorities for the salvage of the dry cargo ship Ever Given. The compensation should cover not only the cost of the rescue operation, but also the losses from the blockage of the canal, the work of which stopped for almost a week.
