Senator Oleg Morozov said that US sanctions for military-technical cooperation with Iran are outside the legal framework of Washington. RIA Novosti reports.
According to him, the US withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal is a unilateral violation of previous international agreements.
Morozov stressed that these US sanctions apply to all participants in the nuclear deal, they will also be affected by restrictions.
On August 20, the United States notified the UN Security Council President “of a significant non-compliance by Iran with its obligations” under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian Nuclear Program. Washington said that from that day on, a 30-day process was launched to return previously lifted sanctions.
In 2015, Britain, Germany, China, Russia, the United States, France and Iran agreed on a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), lifting sanctions against Iran in exchange for Tehran’s nuclear commitments. In the same year, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2231, which announced the end of the arms embargo on October 18, 2020.
In 2018, US President Donald Trump left the JCPOA and re-imposed sanctions on Tehran, which prompted Iran to reduce its nuclear obligations. Currently, Washington is demanding an extension of the arms embargo and threatens to otherwise launch a mechanism for returning the sanctions lifted by Resolution 2231.
