The head of Moderna called the cost of a dose of vaccine against coronavirus

The head of the American company Moderna, Stefan Bansel, in an interview with the Welt am Sonntag newspaper, named the probable cost of the coronavirus vaccine it is developing. According to him, the price can range from $ 25 to $ 37 per dose.

“This is a fair price considering the cost of the health care system for treating severe COVID-19 patients. We are not interested in the highest possible profit, ”Bansel said.

The exact price will depend on the volume of the vaccine purchase order received. In the production of 20 million doses of the vaccine by the end of 2020, according to him, a “small part” of the batch will be available in European countries this year.

The US administration sent Johnson & Johnson $ 456 million to develop a vaccine against coronavirus, Moderna received $ 486 million, and another $ 1.2 billion was provided to AstraZeneca, which is developing a vaccine in collaboration with scientists from Oxford University (UK). Merck and Pfizer are also developing the vaccine in the United States. According to the White House, in total, the administration has invested in these projects $ 12 billion. The vaccine from Moderna in the third phase of trials showed an efficiency of 94.5%.
