The new monolith is similar to the one found in the Utah desert and resembles the object from the film “2001. The Space Odyssey”, appeared and disappeared – this time in Southern California.
It is not clear who placed the monolith on the footpath in Atasquadero, but the tall silver structure attracted many tourists to the area after the photos were published in social networks. Unlike Utah’s monolith, “Atasquadero’s monolith was not attached to the ground and could be overturned with a strong push.
A day later, the structure in California disappeared as strangely as it had appeared. According to a press release from the city of Atasquadero, a monolith 10 feet high disappeared early on Thursday morning. A video on social networks shows a group of young men tearing down the monolith and replacing it with a plywood cross. They also shouted the phrase: “Jesus is King.
“We are upset that these young men felt the need to travel 5 hours to penetrate our community and destroy the monolith,” said Mayor of Atasquadero Heather Moreno.
The city encourages all those who have information about the monolith to contact the Atasquadero police station that is investigating the incident.
