Amid escalating protests, America’s capital has mobilized the National Guard on the eve of a congressional vote to confirm Joe Biden’s electoral victory.
Supporters of current President Donald Trump are planning rallies Tuesday and Wednesday in an effort to support his unproven e allegations of widespread election fraud. “There are people who intend to come to our city with guns,” Acting D.C. Police Chief Robert Conti said Monday.
Trump is encouraging his supporters to show up and has previously hinted that he may personally participate in the rallies.
Officials from both political parties, governors in key battleground states and former Trump attorney general William Barr said there was no widespread fraud in the election. Virtually all of the lawsuits filed by Trump and his allies have been dismissed by judges, including two rejected by the Supreme Court.
