The Pentagon begins the transition to Biden's control

The US Department of Defense has notified the US presidential candidate, Democrat Joe Biden of its support. This was stated in a statement by the press service of the defense department on November 23.

The Department of Defense received notice that, in accordance with the law on the transfer of presidential power in the United States, the head of the US General Services Administration has provided Biden’s transition headquarters and his appointed US Vice President Kamala Harris with certain resources and services. A team of two politicians has already contacted the Pentagon, the ministry said.

“We will immediately begin to implement our plan to provide support in accordance with the charter, policy and protocol of agreement with the White House and the Biden and Harris team,” the Pentagon said in a statement.

The Pentagon’s task force will organize and coordinate all contacts between the US Department of Defense and Biden’s team, the statement said.

The Defense Department has expressed its willingness to provide its services after the US presidential election in a professional and efficient manner.

In the United States, on November 3, 2020, the main vote in the presidential elections took place. More than 10 candidates applied for the position, the main competitors were the current President of the United States, Republican Donald Trump and Biden. The turnout in these elections was a record for 120 years – about 160 million Americans took part in them.

The United States has a two-tier election system. After a popular vote, an electoral college will vote from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia (the number of electors in each state depends on the population). In most states, the candidate who receives the most popular votes will receive all the electoral votes. According to CNN, ABC News and Fox News, Biden has garnered the support of 306 electoral college members. Trump, according to the forecast of TV channels, has the support of 232 electors. To win, you need to collect at least 270 votes. The electoral college will vote on 14 December.

Biden has already announced that he will be the next president of the United States and named the names of candidates whom he plans to appoint to key positions in his administration. A number of world leaders congratulated him on his victory, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump today instructed the Office of General Services and his team to do whatever it takes to transfer power to Biden. Trump noted that he is ready to continue the fight.

The winner of the election is to be officially announced by the President of the US Senate at a meeting on January 6, 2021. On January 20, the elected head of state is to be sworn in.
