Northern California police shot and killed a 22-year-old man kneeling with his arms raised and without arms. This was reported by The Guardian.

The incident occurred in the city of Vallejo near the Walgreens store. Police arrived at the scene after a robbery call. The dead was Sean Munterros.

According to the publication, during the shooting, the police officer was in his car. He assumed that the young man had a weapon, but later it turned out that he had a hammer in his pocket.

The story quickly gained publicity, local residents are outraged by the assassination of Monteross, who was a resident of San Francisco. Civil law attorneyv Melissa Nold, who represents the family of the deceased, especially emphasized that Monteross was on his knees and his arms were raised when the police started firing.

At the moment, law enforcement officers have not shown the material filmed during the incident, so the exact circumstances that led to the murder are unclear. Police chief Vallejo Shawnee Williams at a June 3 press conference said officers were responding to a call for possible robbery at a pharmacy.

According to the head of the police, one of the officers saw Sean Monterossa near the store, he knelt down and began to raise his hands, but the second policeman, who was in the car, saw a threat in his actions and opened fire. At the same time, Williams did not name the policeman who killed the man.

The murder of Sean Monterossa occurred against the backdrop of protests that erupted in many states of the United States, after another murder during detention – African-American George Floyd.

The incident that caused a public outcry occurred in late May in Minneapolis (Minnesota). The police received a call from a local store employee complaining that a large black man had paid with allegedly false bills, was intoxicated and was about to drive.

Law enforcement officers found the alleged intruder – he turned out to be 46-year-old George Floyd – threw him to the ground, one of them stepped Floyd’s knee on his neck and did not pay attention to his cries that he could not breathe. After a while, the detainee lost consciousness, and later died in the hospital from asphyxiation.

Floyd’s death caused a wave of unrest in the United States, starting with Minneapolis, where he died. Peaceful protests quickly gave way to pogroms and looting.
