The price of bitcoin fell to $40,701. This is evidenced by the data service CoinDesk.
Earlier, the bitcoin price fell below $45,000 for the first time in almost three months after the founder of U.S. automaker Tesla, Elon Musk, did not rule out the possibility that the company may sell or has already sold its bitcoin assets. Musk agreed with a comment from a user on Twitter that bitcoin holders will be disappointed to learn next quarter that Tesla has divested its remaining bitcoin assets, previously valued at $1.5 billion.
Musk had previously stated that he had changed his mind because of the environmental concerns surrounding the consumption of electricity to make bitcoin transactions.
Before that, Musk said the company was suspending acceptance of bitcoins as payment. According to him, the cryptocurrency will not be used until it becomes more environmentally friendly.
