American actress Marion Ramsey, star of “Police Academy” and Broadway, has died at age 73.
The performer, best known for her role as Officer Laverne Hooks in the ’80s comedy film franchise, died Thursday in Los Angeles, her manager Roger Paul said. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Ramsey was born in Philadelphia and began her career on stage. She took part in many Broadway shows, including productions of “Eubie!” and “Hello, Dolly.” She made her way to TV, first starring in the TV series “The Jeffersons,” then becoming a regular on the Bill Cosby Show. Ramsey starred in six “Police Academy” movies.
