The intention of the American singer Kanye West to run for the presidency in the U.S. election may indicate plans to create an alternative movement to the Black Lives Matter, which will play into the hands of the current American leader Donald Trump, told RIA Novosti member of the State Duma committee on international affairs Elena Panina.
At the moment, it is unclear in which year West is going to fight for the presidency, but he accompanied his message with the Vision2020 hashtag. By tradition, only candidates from the two leading parties, the Republican and the Democratic, have real chances of being elected – this year they have already been determined, they were Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
At the same time, there are a few cases where candidates from the third party or non-party gained a significant number of votes. At the moment, the last person who succeeded was businessman Ross Perot, who ran in 1992 and won 19% of the vote.
American entrepreneur and founder of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, immediately expressed his support for West.
According to Panina, the deadlines for registering candidates for the US presidency have already expired and this year West will not be able to run as the third candidate, as billionaire Perot did.
“However, it cannot be ruled out that this could be an attempt to create a movement of black Americans, an alternative to the protest Black Lives Matter, or to seize influence on these network structures. A similar idea, in particular, was recently expressed by the first black billionaire Robert Johnson, who became famous for demanding compensation for blacks as victims of the slave trade in the amount of $ 14 trillion, “the deputy said.
At the same time, noted Panina, Johnson criticized Biden, accusing him of political exploitation of African Americans, and West was never seen in sympathy for the Democrats in 2016.
According to the politician, most likely, we can talk about how to send the protests of the African American population in a constructive direction with specific socio-economic requirements – instead of the current calls for the dissolution of the police and the universal repentance of the white population.
“In this sense, West’s demarche is in Trump’s hands, and West’s support from the successive trampist Elon Musk seems logical. We see how the Trump-oriented part of the American establishment is trying to stop the“ color revolution in the United States, ”offering the conscious part of the protesters, in the language of Trump, “a good deal.” If it works out, time will tell, “Panina concluded.
