A statue of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau was desecrated. Her head was painted black, reports The Star.
This happened in a park in Won. The desecration of the statue of the father of the current Prime Minister of the country, Justin Trudeau, was considered disrespectful. The administration has already dispatched brigades to clear the monument.
Police in York, Ontario, said they had begun an investigation into the incident. Eyewitnesses to the crime were called to contact law enforcement. Police suggested that the incident could have been motivated by hatred.
On June 6, Justin Trudeau took part in an action against racism and police violence in Ottawa and knelt in memory of the black American George Floyd who died in Minneapolis.
Demonstrators in different countries began to demolish historical monuments. So, in the city of Richmond (Virginia, USA), protesters demolished the statue of Christopher Columbus because of the death of Floyd. In its place, they put a sign with the inscription “Columbus represents genocide.”
