U.S. Congressmen supported efforts under the Three Seas Initiative to develop energy independence in Central and Eastern Europe. Thus, they adopted a resolution to that effect.

The document states that the initiative will contribute to economic growth, sustainability and energy security in Europe, as well as strengthen U.S. national security.

The resolution also says Russia is seeking to undermine democratic institutions and freedoms in Europe, as the latter is heavily dependent on it. According to congressmen, Russia is using energy resources as a tool of coercion.

“Russian gas pipeline projects, such as Nord Stream-2 and Turkish Stream, are of political nature and are aimed at undermining Europe’s energy security,” the document says.
