The U.S. supported Zelensky's decision to impose sanctions against opposition channels

The United States supported Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision to impose sanctions against several opposition TV channels. This was reported on Wednesday, February 3, on the page of the U.S. Embassy in Facebook.

“The U.S. supports the efforts to counter Russia’s malign influence made yesterday by Ukraine in defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity and in accordance with Ukrainian law,” the statement said.

The U.S. diplomatic mission also called on Ukraine to work together to prevent disinformation as “a weapon in the information war against sovereign states.”

On February 2, it became known that Zelensky enacted a decision of the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions against several TV channels: 112 Ukraine and regional channels under his logo, as well as ZIK and NewsOne. After his decree, they stopped broadcasting. Personal sanctions were also imposed on an MP of the “Opposition Platform – For Life” party Taras Kozak, who is the owner of the “Novosti” media holding. In this connection, the Opposition Platform – For Life party is initiating an impeachment procedure against Zelenskyy.
