The assassination of Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Kassem Suleymani on January 3 by order of U.S. President Donald Trump is illegal, said UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial killings Agnes Kallamard.
“In the light of the evidence presented to date by the United States (it’s clear that – IF), the blow to General Suleimani and the deaths of those accompanying him constitute an unjustified murder for which the United States is responsible in accordance with international humanitarian law,” cites “ Interfax ”excerpts from her report.
According to the Special Rapporteur, there was no evidence that Suleimani “was certainly planning an imminent attack against US interests, especially in Iraq, which required an immediate and justified response.”
She emphasized that US actions were illegal. The Callamard report will be presented on July 9.
Earlier, the Iranian judicial authorities had previously demanded that Interpol put on the international wanted list more than 30 people who participated in the assassination of Suleymani. Among them are, including Trump and political and military leaders of the United States and other countries.
Interpol said that the organization’s rules do not allow considering the request of Iran to search for Trump and the others involved in the assassination of the general.
US Special Envoy for Iran Brian Hook said Tehran’s issuing a warrant for Trump’s arrest is a “propaganda trick.”
In January, the United States carried out a special operation in Iraq, as a result of which the commander of the Al-Quds special forces, the IRGC Suleimani, was killed. Trump personally gave the order.
In response, Iran attacked the US air base in western Iraq and the American military facility in Iraqi Kurdistan.
