“We are moving in the wrong direction.”
Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the United States, predicts a sharp surge in new infections with coronavirus in the country – up to 100 thousand per day.
36 states have seen an increase in the incidence of COVID-19, particularly in the south. On June 26, more than 40 thousand new cases of COVID-19 were registered in the USA, this is a new anti-record since the beginning of the pandemic. The reason for the record levels of new cases of illness and hospitalizations is called premature “opening” of the states and violation of the rules of social distance.
“At the moment, we have more than 40 thousand new cases per day. I won’t be surprised if this figure jumps to 100 thousand, ”Fauci quoted CNN during a hearing in Congress.
However, the chief infectious disease specialist in the United States did not voice the final forecasts for morbidity and mortality from coronavirus: “It will be very alarming, I guarantee it.”
According to Fauci, the US is “moving in the wrong direction” and the situation with coronavirus is getting out of control.
“I’m very concerned about what is happening now, especially in the four states [Florida, Texas, California and Arizona], which account for about 50% of new infections,” he added.
Speaking in Congress, Fauci and Director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Robert Redfield emphasized the importance of wearing masks in public places. Fauci said that “we recommend wearing masks to everyone.”
