The USA is in danger of a "mega-disaster"

The American state of California was warned about a storm, the consequences of which will be more serious than traditional for the West Coast of the United States.

According to scientists, the state may fall on the 3- to 6-m precipitation, as a result, each of the largest cities in California will be under a five-meter layer of water. This is reported by ABC News.

Seismologist Lucy Jones noted that such a “mega-disaster” was already in the winter of 1861-1862. She noted a record number of casualties and destruction.

Climate scientist Daniel Swain believes that tragedy can happen again. In that case, it is worth waiting for a significant number of victims, and at least 1.5 million people in California will have to evacuate.

Jones and Swain stressed that a megastorm is inevitable. They found out from annual tree rings that the state has had to survive at least six floods in the past 1800 years, which were larger than natural disasters in 1861-1862.

Earlier the World Meteorological Organization stated that 2020 was one of the hottest years in the history of observations. The average temperature on Earth has reached 1.2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, and it is expected that by 2024 it may temporarily exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius. The UN said that the world is “on the verge of climatic disaster”.
