U.S. President Donald Trump plans to visit the launch site in Florida during the launch of the spacecraft Crew Dragon, the press service of the Trump administration.
The launch of Crew Dragon from the site at Cape Canaveral is scheduled for May 27. For the first time since 2011, when the program was curtailed “Space Shuttle”, the U.S. ship will launch to the International Space Station with the crew on board.
Earlier, the U.S. media reported that due to the importance of this launch, President Donald Trump is planning to visit the launch site.
“Trump will personally attend the launch of SpaceX in Florida on May 27,” the White House confirmed this information.
Recall that after the completion of the program “Space Shuttle” all manned flights to the ISS were carried out on Russian ships series “Union”. In 2014, the U.S. aerospace agency NASA signed a contract with Boeing and SpaceX to develop a manned ship to deliver crews to the ISS.
In the spring of 2019, the SpaceX Crew Dragon successfully conducted a flight to the ISS in unmanned mode. The upcoming manned launch will be the last test required for certification of this series of ships.
On May 23, SpaceX conducted static engine tests of the Falcon 9 launcher, which will be used to launch the Crew Dragon.
