The White House described Biden talking to Putin as "not holding back"

U.S. President Joe Biden did not hold back during his phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. This was announced by White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

She assured that the American leader had clear goals, and he implemented them during the conversation. “He never held back when it came to President Putin and concerns about the actions of the Russian leadership,” Psaki stressed.

She said Biden was outspoken about the way opposition activist Alexei Navalny and participants in the unsanctioned rallies that took place in Russian cities on Jan. 23. The White House press secretary added that Washington would be equally frank with Russia on issues of concern when engaging on other levels.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the telephone conversation was initiated by Moscow. The conversation lasted more than 35 minutes and was working and frank.

The phone conversation between Putin and Biden took place on January 26. The White House press service informed that the problem of the SolarWinds hacking was raised. In addition, the heads of Russia and the U.S. talked about the poisoning of Navalny and unsanctioned rallies. At the end of the talks, the heads of state expressed satisfaction with the exchange of notes on reaching an agreement on extending the START treaty.
