Tokyo Olympics: a case of COVID among athletes

One of the athletes from Uganda who is scheduled to compete in the Tokyo Olympics has fallen ill with a coronavirus, it was found out upon arrival in Japan.

The team from Uganda arrived in the country this Saturday. All athletes were vaccinated the day before and tested positive for coronavirus. One test showed unclear results and on retesting it turned out that the athlete was sick. He was not allowed to go to Japan and was placed in an isolation ward. The rest of the team went to Osaka.

According to media reports, Japan has allowed the athletes not to undergo a two-week quarantine upon arrival. Instead, they will undergo daily tests for coronavirus.

By the way, it was recently reported that up to 10,000 fans would be allowed to attend the Olympics, which could lead to an outbreak of coronavirus.
