Trump accused of historical corruption

Former U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney accused incumbent U.S. leader Donald Trump of corruption because Trump cut his prison sentence to his former adviser Roger Stone. Romney wrote about this on his Twitter.

“Unprecedented historical corruption: the American president commits a sentence to a person convicted by jury for lying to the president himself,” he said. Such a decision by Trump will allow the former adviser to escape from prison.

The message has already gained more than 110 thousand retweets and over 36 thousand comments. So, the director and blogger Robbie Starbuck ironicized that Romney is angry because he himself will never become president.

On January 25, 2019, Stone was arrested on seven criminal charges. On the same day, he was released on bail in the amount of 250 thousand dollars. The adviser was accused, in particular, of compromising the Democrats, which ultimately allowed Trump to win the presidential race.

A month later, Stone was sentenced to three years and four months in prison. He received 40 months for false testimony to Congress and 12-18 months for the other six criminal episodes in which he was convicted.
