In the United States, the National Garden of American Heroes will be created, where statues of famous Americans will be located. This was stated by President Donald Trump, speaking at the memorial on Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.
“I announce the creation of a new monument to the giants of our past. I will sign a decree on the creation of the National Garden of American Heroes, ”said the head of the White House. He did not specify exactly where the park would be located, but noted that it would be an open-air territory with statues of “the greatest of all Americans ever lived.”
Trump made his statement against the backdrop of the riots of the Black Lives Matter movement (“Black lives matter”), during which monuments to historical figures were demolished or vandalized in the United States.
During a speech at Mount Rushmore, the president said the country “has witnessed a ruthless campaign to destroy history, erase values and slander national heroes.” He said that in this way the proponents of “left fascism” want to “overthrow the American revolution” and “end America.”
In protests against racism and police brutality caused by the death of African American George Floyd in late May, protesters demolished or damaged dozens of monuments across the United States. Mostly, statues of personalities were attacked, in one way or another related to slavery and oppression of the black population.
In response, Trump allowed the arrest of all vandals destroying the monuments. After that, he signed a decree that introduced “long prison sentences” for those who ruin American statues, monuments, and monuments.
