Trump called COVID-19 “infodemic locomotive”

Scientists from the American Cornell University said that US President Donald Trump is the main disseminator of disinformation about the new type of coronavirus COVID-19. This is reported in a study published on the university website.

The work was titled “What led to the ‘infodemic’ of misinformation about the coronavirus?” The term “infodemic”, which is used by scientists, was first used by the World Health Organization (WHO) through the merger of the words “information” and “pandemic”.

In their work, representatives of Cornell University analyzed over 38 million English-language articles on COVID-19 made from January 1 to May 26.

“We found that media references to the name of US President Donald Trump in the context of misinformation about COIVID-19 were the largest part of the infodemia,” the publication said.

According to the data provided, mentions with Trump are 37.9%, which is the largest share compared to all other misinforming topics.

In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 29 million cases have been registered in the world, almost 20 million people have recovered, and more than 900 thousand patients have died.
