The United States has already built 240 miles (about 386 kilometers) of a new wall on the country’s border with Mexico, and by the end of the year the length of its already built part will be 450 miles (724 kilometers). This was announced on Twitter by US President Donald Trump.
According to Trump, his administration managed to provide some of the best indicators in the history of the number of arrests for trying to illegally cross the border. “Radical leftist democrats want open borders so that anyone, including many criminals, could get into the US,” the president warns.
The promise of building a wall on the southern border of the United States was one of Trump’s key and conflicting promises. It caused opposition from representatives of the Democratic Party. Trump even promised that Mexico would pay for the construction of the wall, but this did not happen.
Twitter users object to Trump. According to one of the commentators, he only “replaced the old fence with a new one”, which his predecessors Barack Obama and George W. Bush did. Then Mexico also did not pay for it, she adds.
Another commentator points out that the Trump administration only improved 197 miles of the existing wall and built 3 miles new. “It will take 30 years for all 2 thousand miles of the border – such a pace does not impress anyone,” he notes.
