The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has announced that Robert Brown and Christopher Osteen, who escaped Friday, December 11, 2020, from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Lake County, Tennessee, have been found in Florida.
The inmates were considered armed and dangerous. They were cellmates and managed to escape from the prison together. Law enforcement officers arrested Robert Brown and Christopher Austin in Pompano Beach, Florida, two days later. Details of their arrest have not yet been released.
Authorities announced Brown’s arrest about an hour before they learned of Austin’s capture. Both men were on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s most wanted list. After fleeing Friday morning, Brown and Austin kidnapped a traffic officer in Fulton County, Kentucky, from a boat ramp on the Mississippi River, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. The officer and his department truck were later found nearby. The escapees also captured and tied up a local resident, apparently hiding in his home. They then stole a red 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, which they found in Florida.
Brown, 36, is serving an 18-year sentence for aggravated rape and Austin, 34, is serving an eight-year sentence for burglary. They face additional charges in connection with their escape.
